Clarion is leading the Kickstart Housing Partnership: a consortium of 59 organisations, including 44 in the housing sector that will create new Kickstart roles under which the government pays 100% of the national minimum wage for the six month work placement.

The roles and opportunities will be varied and Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group, will provide in-work support and training throughout the process. Every young person will be assigned an Employment Support Officer, who will help them develop basic work skills and access additional opportunities.

You can apply for Kickstart jobs if you’re 16-24, live in England or Wales and claim universal credit. Your work coach will explain the application process and help you apply for the role most suitable.

What is Kickstart?

Kickstart is a government funded initiative supporting 16-24 year olds into a 6 month paid work placement.

Support: Every Kickstart employee will have access to dedicated employability support. This includes CV building, interview techniques, confidence building, next steps and opportunities after placement.

What does Kickstart mean to Clarion?

We are so excited to be part of Kickstart and bring on-board new team members across Clarion. Our roles are completely varied and every manager is fully invested in developing and encouraging their Kickstart employee(s) throughout their placement.  We recognise the importance of bringing fresh ideas and ways of working into our business whilst also understanding how vital these placements are in building an individual’s experience and confidence.

Is Kickstart for me?

If you are 16-24, unemployed and in receipt of universal credit then that is the first step. Following that, speak to you work coach to find out what roles are in your area and how to apply for them. If you are motivated, eager to learn, gain valuable experience and ready for your next challenge then Kickstart is definitely for you!

What if I don’t have any previous experience?

Don’t worry, that is why Kickstart is a great opportunity to build experience. Whether that is adding to previous experience or starting a fresh. And you will have transferable skills from your school, college, home or personal life that you can draw on at both CV and interview stage. Highlight your characteristics, values and how you would approach something, regardless of whether you have done it before.

This is a DWP scheme after all, so speak to you work coach at your local Job Centre Plus and they will discuss current roles available in your area. If any take your interest, you will be invited to apply by your work coach (in Clarion’s case this is with a CV and cover letter).
